Addictive Rating: 1
Synopsis: [Taken from wiki.d.addicts.com]
This drama tells the success story of Han Jung Won, a workaholic careerwoman who is determined to make her own way in life without the help of her family, which has garnered considerable wealth from their publishing company. Her life is turned upside down due to someone's mistake, and she faces numerous setbacks on the road to recovery.
What I have to say:
The synopsis description above from Wiki Addicts isn't very good. This is actually the classic switched at birth plot, Korean-style. The two women pictured were switched at birth, and one comes from a family that struggles with money, and the other from a family that is affluent. So, essentially one goes from rags to riches and the other from riches to rags. The themes that spoke to me as a KAD include the whole nature vs. nurture, loyalty issues toward the mom that raised you vs. the mom that gave birth to you, fate, destiny, and a will to rise above all of the challenges that go along with a complex identity. Some of the scenes were heartbreaking and resonated with me as an adoptee. I'd say the first 30% of the drama moved along really well, then the next third went a bit slower, and then finally in the end it got better again. If you can deal with the stuff in the middle, it's pretty good. I only stuck with it because I wanted to see what, if any resolution the two families came up with in the end.
See the complete list of dramas I've reviewed here.
Soju (1) | It had me coming back for more, but left me with a hangover. Worth it in the moment, but slight regret the next day.
Kimbap (2) | It moved well and often left me wondering what would happen in the next episode, but it wasn't as fulfilling as it had the potential to be.
Bibimbap (3) | I lost a lot of sleep because they knew how to end each episode with a cliffhanger! Lots of harmonious ingredients making this one a win!
Fanatic (4) | An amazing drama that was very well told and nearly every single episode ended with a major cliffhanger making you scream for more! I'm an absolute fan!
(I only put on here the dramas I actually recommend because I think it's really good. Even a soju rating means it was good and satisfying. A fanatic rating just means it blew me away and was near perfection. There are many dramas I've seen that I don't have on my recommendation list.)
