We started watching Marriage Contract, which came out in early 2016. I needed to watch a drama that I could binge watch if necessary, so this one has become my binge-y, soap opera-y drama.
It’s got a handful of serious themes including dying parents, single-parenthood, financial debt stress, and so on. But despite that, it’s being done in a captivating way, moving at the pace that I demand of Korean dramas. I can’t stand episodes or long scenes that are full of empty scenes with no help towards the plot.
This drama is somewhat predictable in that I think I know how the main guy Han Ji Hoon will change a bit as a character, but despite that it’s quite good. The little actress who plays the daughter of Kang Hye Soo is pretty cute and amazing. I’m hopeful that there’s a somewhat happy ending but I have a feeling it’ll be a bitter sweet one. I’ll review it if I think it’s worth recommending!
UPDATE on Dec 27, 2016:
Can't say I recommend this. It started out strong but then it just felt like an overly done long ending basically concluding that Ji Hoon is not a complete ass and that Hye Soo may or may not die soon, but in the meantime live each day fully. Felt very cliche. It was also just so sad because we keep watching Hye Soo slowly get weaker and more impacted by her brain tumor. I only recommend this if you like realllly sappy dramas. We did finish it, but I so was not into it the last 5 episodes.
See the complete list of dramas I've reviewed here.
Soju (1) | It had me coming back for more, but left me with a hangover. Worth it in the moment, but slight regret the next day.
Kimbap (2) | It moved well and often left me wondering what would happen in the next episode, but it wasn't as fulfilling as it had the potential to be.
Bibimbap (3) | I lost a lot of sleep because they knew how to end each episode with a cliffhanger! Lots of harmonious ingredients making this one a win!
Fanatic (4) | An amazing drama that was very well told and nearly every single episode ended with a major cliffhanger making you scream for more! I'm an absolute fan!
(I only put on here the dramas I actually recommend because I think it's really good. Even a soju rating means it was good and satisfying. A fanatic rating just means it blew me away and was near perfection. There are many dramas I've seen that I don't have on my recommendation list.)
