Addictive Rating: 3
Synopsis: A family with 1 kid living in Seoul, 2016. The husband (many first discovered him in 1st Shop of Coffee Prince, back in 2007) finds a text message from a Michael, sent to his wife indicating that they’d meet at a hotel. As the story unravels, we find out about this man’s wife and her affair, but also so much more than that. We learn about their relationship then and now, and we gain insight into the challenges of raising a child in Seoul with 2 full time employed parents. The husband goes online and uses a chat room to express his utter shock and horror at what’s happening to him and we get to also see random people who are in the chatroom react to him and his deteriorating marriage. The plot follows not only his life, but some of the people in his office and some of the online chatroom people, too.
What I have to say: I thought this drama was well-written. It kept me wanting to learn more and watch each week, as I watched it in real time with when it aired in Korea. (I just waited for Drama Fever to subtitle it.) It was heartbreaking, and yet so real. Very human story and the idiosyncrasies and realities of staying connected was well expressed.
See the complete list of dramas I've reviewed here.
Soju (1) | It had me coming back for more, but left me with a hangover. Worth it in the moment, but slight regret the next day.
Kimbap (2) | It moved well and often left me wondering what would happen in the next episode, but it wasn't as fulfilling as it had the potential to be.
Bibimbap (3) | I lost a lot of sleep because they knew how to end each episode with a cliffhanger! Lots of harmonious ingredients making this one a win!
Fanatic (4) | An amazing drama that was very well told and nearly every single episode ended with a major cliffhanger making you scream for more! I'm an absolute fan!
(I only put on here the dramas I actually recommend because I think it's really good. Even a soju rating means it was good and satisfying. A fanatic rating just means it blew me away and was near perfection. There are many dramas I've seen that I don't have on my recommendation list.)
