Supposedly, this period piece will be 50 episodes. As of writing this, there are 17 episodes on Drama Fever. This is airing in Korea right now. I guess I’m becoming a sucker for watching dramas that are airing in Korea. Bad news is you can’t watch a lot in a row this way, but given where my life is at right now, I don’t have the time to binge on dramas anyway. Last night, the hubby and I watched episode 1 and half of episode 2. We’re already hooked, and when episode 1 ended, we just had to watch some of episode 2 to see what would happen. That’s always a good sign for me, when episode 1 finishes and I’m actually interested in the next one.
I haven’t watched a Joseon-centered drama in a long time, but it feels good to be seeing one again. There is certainly more DRAMA in these historic plots, filled with tragedy and gut-wrenching moments, but sometimes that sort of drama feels so good to watch! And it’s a nice balance with School 2015, which I’m also watching, though nearly finished with since the last handful of episodes are nearly upon me.
I really like a handful of the actors in Hwa-Jung. When I first started watching Korean dramas nearly 9 years ago, I had no idea who was who and I didn’t really care, either. But as my interest in Korean dramas and therefore celebrities has grown, I now pay more attention to this. I wouldn’t say I always pick a drama over another one based on the actors, but certainly if I like one over another, I may watch it because I enjoy their work. The main actress in this one was in Miss Korea, and I liked her in that, so it'll be fun to see her in a different role!
See the complete list of dramas I've reviewed here.
Soju (1) | It had me coming back for more, but left me with a hangover. Worth it in the moment, but slight regret the next day.
Kimbap (2) | It moved well and often left me wondering what would happen in the next episode, but it wasn't as fulfilling as it had the potential to be.
Bibimbap (3) | I lost a lot of sleep because they knew how to end each episode with a cliffhanger! Lots of harmonious ingredients making this one a win!
Fanatic (4) | An amazing drama that was very well told and nearly every single episode ended with a major cliffhanger making you scream for more! I'm an absolute fan!
(I only put on here the dramas I actually recommend because I think it's really good. Even a soju rating means it was good and satisfying. A fanatic rating just means it blew me away and was near perfection. There are many dramas I've seen that I don't have on my recommendation list.)
