Addictive Rating: 3
Synopsis: ..."Centers on the lives of six friends in Busan, as the timeline moves back and forth between their past as 18-year-old high schoolers in 1997 and their present as 33-year-olds at their high school reunion dinner in 2012, where one couple will announce that they're getting married. The coming-of-age drama also examines the extreme fan culture that emerged in the 1990s when first generation idol groups such asH.O.T. and Sechs Kies took center stage and K-pop was just blossoming." - Source Wikipedia
What I have to say:
I love sentimental dramas like this one! It's about first loves, but the reality that sometimes first loves don't work out and sometimes they do, even if it doesn't happen perfectly. One character was gay, and though they didn't over develop this aspect of the plot, I felt for a Korean drama they did a good job of not making it out to be a big negative aspect of who this person was. Most of the plot centers around the main female character and her life from a higher schooler through about age 31. It was a lot more addictive and heart felt than I would have expected, and the last episode was rewarding (always a plus for K-Dramas which sometimes have disappointing endings). Having grown up and gone through high school around the same time as these characters, I appreciated the timeline. The 90s references to pagers and the tomagotchi (たまごっち) toy made it more humorous. I highly recommend it!
See the complete list of dramas I've reviewed here.
Soju (1) | It had me coming back for more, but left me with a hangover. Worth it in the moment, but slight regret the next day.
Kimbap (2) | It moved well and often left me wondering what would happen in the next episode, but it wasn't as fulfilling as it had the potential to be.
Bibimbap (3) | I lost a lot of sleep because they knew how to end each episode with a cliffhanger! Lots of harmonious ingredients making this one a win!
Fanatic (4) | An amazing drama that was very well told and nearly every single episode ended with a major cliffhanger making you scream for more! I'm an absolute fan!
(I only put on here the dramas I actually recommend because I think it's really good. Even a soju rating means it was good and satisfying. A fanatic rating just means it blew me away and was near perfection. There are many dramas I've seen that I don't have on my recommendation list.)
