I've seen the other two; Answer Me 1997 and Answer Me 1994. Loved both of them. The coming of age story, the accurate focus on that specific time in Korean history, the romantic theme of guessing who the main character marries, and the hilarious goat sound. Rounded out by the same set of parents in all three dramas, what's not to love?
I started Answer Me 1988 over a year ago but got siderailed by moving to Korea! Meant to get back to this one in the last 6 months, but other dramas worthy of watching got in the way.
Finally, with it being the heart of winter, I am ready for these 90 minute episodes! So far after just a few episodes, I'm enjoying the ride of yet another smashing success that is Answer Me 1988. The Seoul Olympics being part of the plot makes it that much more heart warming as someone who grew up on the other side of the planet and knew very little about Korea, or Seoul back in 1988.
See the complete list of dramas I've reviewed here.
Soju (1) | It had me coming back for more, but left me with a hangover. Worth it in the moment, but slight regret the next day.
Kimbap (2) | It moved well and often left me wondering what would happen in the next episode, but it wasn't as fulfilling as it had the potential to be.
Bibimbap (3) | I lost a lot of sleep because they knew how to end each episode with a cliffhanger! Lots of harmonious ingredients making this one a win!
Fanatic (4) | An amazing drama that was very well told and nearly every single episode ended with a major cliffhanger making you scream for more! I'm an absolute fan!
(I only put on here the dramas I actually recommend because I think it's really good. Even a soju rating means it was good and satisfying. A fanatic rating just means it blew me away and was near perfection. There are many dramas I've seen that I don't have on my recommendation list.)
