I am based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a nonprofit communications professional, and a mother since 2012. I daydream about Korea fairly often. I've lived there twice as an adult, and both times were easily the most incredible and yet challenging times for me. I don't feel 100% in my element in Minnesota or in Korea, but both places are still "home" and the people who understand or attempt to understand me are where I really feel my best and at home. That is not a physical place but rather an intentional community I am constantly growing in and learning from. Some people in that community are other adoptees, some are not, but all have a desire to better understand the complexities that come with being uprooted, seeking healing in various ways, and being supportive to new narratives that empower the person with the story.
If you need a quick label though, here's this: I'm a #7 on the Enneagram, an ENFP, Cancer Sun/Virgo Rising, of Korean ethnicity but raised by German-Irish-American-Catholic-Minnesotans, and a communication major from a liberal arts college. I'm also a Korean adoptee that has reunited with my Korean father.
The glass is still half-full for me, but a cynical joke will definitely escape my mouth daily.
